As summer draws near, anticipation builds for music festivals, beachside gatherings, and open-air film nights under the shimmering night sky. As the calendar progresses, cultural enthusiasts can expect a bustling lineup of events, igniting excitement among event aficionados.
Bringing cinematic art to the heart of Nicosia, the latest installment of the Images and Views of Alternative Cinema Festival will grace the Hambis Municipal Printmaking Museum from June 3 to 9. Focused on showcasing the exploratory and unconventional facets of global cinema, the festival promises a week-long cinematic journey within the historical backdrop of old Nicosia, set amidst the museum’s picturesque courtyard.
The festival’s 2024 debut will commence with an enchanting evening dedicated to operatic expressions, featuring a curated selection of short features and works by the esteemed Greek-Australian filmmaker, Bill Mousoulis. Notable highlights include Dimitris Bampas’ introduction of the short film “Ascension – Jacob Sutton,” and Doros Demetriou’s presentation of Mousoulis’ “Experimenting Angel: Love, Music, Resistance,” followed by a stimulating discussion with the director, marking a captivating start to the festival.
A rich tapestry of short and feature-length film screenings awaits attendees, with the June 8 program also featuring an engaging exhibition. Titled “Collision,” this exhibition and screening event offers a tantalizing glimpse into the artistry and innovation of contemporary collage animation from around the globe, featuring works by acclaimed filmmakers such as Frida Liappa, Olivier Assayas, and Marianna Christofides.
