The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is embarking on a unique journey this week, departing from traditional concert venues to bring their music to unconventional settings. In a bid to engage with diverse communities, they will be presenting three concerts tailored for specific groups, sharing the uplifting essence of their music with those who might not typically have access to it.
Their inaugural performance, slated for Wednesday, will take place at the American Medical Centre, where the musicians will serenade the audience with a selection of radiant romantic pieces in the entrance hall at 10am. Following this, on Friday evening, they will grace the Tala Amphitheatre in Paphos with their melodies, commencing at 8pm.
A particularly noteworthy event will precede this, as the orchestra endeavors to bring solace and joy to the inmates and staff of Nicosia’s central prisons a day earlier. The repertoire promises to be diverse, featuring compositions by renowned artists such as Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Rossini, Elgar, Skalkottas, Brahms, and Pissis. These performances mark the debut of the talented young Cypriot conductor, Andreas Asiikkis, leading the CySO.
Looking ahead, the orchestra has plans for more outreach endeavors in June, including collaborations with young musicians, a charity concert featuring legendary Cuban artists, and an homage to international composers alongside pianists.
Details of the upcoming CySO Outreach Concerts are as follows:
- May 29: American Medical Centre, Nicosia, 10am.
- May 30: Central Prisons, Nicosia.
- May 31: Tala Amphitheatre, Paphos, 8pm.
