Upcoming family-friendly English plays are on the horizon in Cyprus, a notable departure from the predominantly Greek theater scene. In June, Paphos, Larnaca, and Curium will showcase performances ranging from imaginative fairy tales to Shakespearean classics.
Kicking off the lineup is “The Blue Bird,” an adaptation of Maurice Maeterlinck’s adult fairy tale, suitable for children as young as six. This enchanting tale follows siblings Tiltil and Mytil on a quest to find the elusive Blue Bird and rescue a fairy’s granddaughter. Presented at the Markideio Theatre in Paphos on June 1st, the show invites audiences to join the adventure at 5pm.
Following closely is “The Twits,” a rendition of Roald Dahl’s story, presented by the Little Muse Youth Theatre in Larnaca on June 2nd. This tale of the unpleasant Mr. and Mrs. Twit, who engage in cruel antics, is suitable for families with children aged two and above, starting at 5pm at the G.Lykourgos Theatre.
Later in June, theater enthusiasts can enjoy William Shakespeare’s “King Lear,” presented at Ancient Curium. Scheduled for June 20th to 22nd by the Performing Arts for Cyprus Charities, this production aims to support the Cyprus Alzheimer Association.
“The Blue Bird,” “The Twits,” and “King Lear” offer diverse entertainment options for families and theater aficionados alike, promising engaging performances in English across different venues in Cyprus.
