As the vibrant opening event of the PURITY exhibition captivated artists, art enthusiasts, and the broader public at the Lefkara gallery, the journey into artistic purity continues with an array of captivating parallel events. Curator Eleni Philippou announces that these events will extend through the onset of summer, promising enriching experiences for attendees.
Diving deeper into the exhibition’s theme, a series of discussions, talks, and performances in English are scheduled. Panel discussions will dissect various aspects of purity, shedding light on its multifaceted nature. Engaging talks with artists will unveil insights into their creations and the imaginative process behind their works. Overnight performances will breathe life into the theme, while a workshop will delve into the art of storytelling within the realm of visual expression.
Already underway, an Open Discussion exploring the nexus between sex and purity has sparked intriguing conversations. Similarly, an Artists Talk has provided a platform for artists to share their perspectives. Soon to come is an interactive workshop that promises to be an enriching experience.
Scheduled for June 15th, artist Lefki Savvidou will lead the Storytelling in Art workshop. Conducted in English during the afternoon, this interactive session will offer participants an intimate glimpse into the vision and techniques of this Cypriot artist. Through a three-hour exploration, attendees will engage with objects and aspects of their lives, mirroring Savvidou’s approach to her own work. Registration for the workshop is available at www.tas.xyz for €25.
On June 21st, a unique performance event titled “Surrender” will captivate audiences at the gallery. Artist Umay Yilmaz Kutai will spend the night, inviting the public to join her. Beginning at 9 pm, visitors can choose to bring their pillows and duvets to sleep alongside the artist on the gallery floor or witness the unfolding performance piece.
Continuing the dialogue, the exhibition series will host its second and final artist talk on July 6th. Eight participating artists will engage in conversation with Elena Ioannidou from The Edit Gallery, exploring their works, the purity theme, and their creative processes.
Concluding the exhibition on July 13th, curator Sofiia-Zlata Shestakovskaya invites the public to a soundwalk around Lefkara village. This immersive two-hour experience emphasizes attentive listening, echoing the ethos of the exhibition. A soundwalk, originating from the World Soundscape Project in Vancouver during the 1970s, offers a unique sensory journey, relying solely on the auditory senses.
