This Friday, Limassol will be alive with music as it joins the global celebrations of World Music Day. Organized by Alliance Française de Limassol in collaboration with the Municipality of Limassol and the French Institute of Cyprus, the city will host the Fête de la Musique event for its 37th year. This event, which originated in Paris in 1982 under the initiative of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, celebrated in over 120 countries.
A Rich Tradition
In 1987, the Alliance Française de Limassol brought the Fête de la Musique to Cyprus, fostering the local music scene ever since. This year, the festivities promise to enliven the streets of central Limassol with live music and a vibrant street party, showcasing 13 musical groups comprising 150 musicians. The historic city center will resonate with diverse musical performances, offering concerts and musical walks throughout the afternoon and evening.
Event Highlights
The celebration kicks off with a musical walk starting at Saripolou Square at 5:45 pm, featuring the rhythmic beats of the Batukinio Percussion Band playing Afro-Brazilian music live. At 6:30 pm, the World Stage at Panepistimiou Square will host performances by three bands—Eutopia, Trio Rodine, and Myrothkies tou Giasemiou—continuing until 8 pm. Simultaneously, Molos Deck and Castle Square will also come alive with music, adding to the festive atmosphere. The day culminates with a lively street party on G. Mitela pedestrian street, featuring a DJ set.
