Historic Achievement in Nicosia
On June 25, at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia, Cyprus set a new Guinness World Record for the largest human chain for peace. An impressive 4,073 participants from all over Cyprus joined hands to create a powerful symbol of unity and cooperation.
Surpassing Kyoto’s Record
In a remarkable feat, Nicosia exceeded the previous record held by Kyoto, Japan. This achievement demonstrated that even a small nation can accomplish great things through collaboration and determination.
Celebration of Unity and Volunteerism
The event marked a significant moment in Cyprus’s history, characterized by a spirit of solidarity and volunteerism. The record-setting attempt, “Longest Alternating Human Chain Holding Wrists” for one minute, was a resounding success, spearheaded by the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation and Konstantinos Argyros.
Inspiration and Hope
Konstantinos Argyros, who played a key role in energizing the chain, expressed his deep affection for Cyprus. He emphasized the enduring “Hope” for a world filled with love and mutual support, reinforcing the event’s underlying message of unity.
Prominent Participation
The chain featured notable figures, including Elpida Iakovidou, Bishop Nikiforos of Kykkos, Koullis Nicolaou, officials from the Ministry of Education, and various business leaders. Significantly, individuals with special abilities also joined, showcasing their resilience and determination.
A Vision for a United Cyprus
John Christodoulou, visibly moved, highlighted the importance of collective effort and vision. He remarked, “It is not the size of the country that counts, but the size of the mind, the cooperation, and the vision.” He called for unity and strength, especially in light of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, expressing his hope for a free and safe future for the coming generations.

The event, hosted by the popular Andri Karantoni, included an official witness, Elly Symons from Australia, who has Cypriot roots. The chain’s success was meticulously overseen by Guinness representatives, along with 200 supervisors and volunteers.
A Celebratory Concert
Following the record-setting moment, participants enjoyed a spectacular concert by Konstantinos Argyros. The highlight was his performance of the Cypriot song “Eleftheros,” during which he proudly displayed the Cypriot flag, resonating deeply with the audience.
Foundation’s Impact
The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation, founded by Cypriot entrepreneur John Christodoulou, has gained international recognition for its charitable initiatives in education and welfare. This Guinness World Record achievement further solidifies the Foundation’s mission to make a positive societal impact and promote Cyprus globally.
