This weekend marks the unveiling of a significant retrospective exhibition in Platres, Cyprus, as the highly esteemed Cypriot printmaker, Hambis Tsangaris, showcases his life’s work. Titled “Hambis’ Cyprus” (I Kipros tou Hambi), the exhibition will be inaugurated by President Nikos Christodoulides at the Giorgos Seferis Cultural Centre on Sunday.
Organized by the Troodos Mountain Communities Cultural Foundation, the exhibition pays tribute to Tsangaris’ extensive career and artistic contributions. Curated by the artist himself, the showcase features 40 carefully selected pieces spanning various themes central to Tsangaris’ oeuvre.
A Journey Through Themes and Time
Spanning six decades from 1976 to 2022, the exhibition encapsulates Tsangaris’ artistic evolution and influences. His works vividly depict landscapes, portraits, nature, architecture, and scenes inspired by Cypriot traditions, myths, and customs. Each piece reflects Tsangaris’ distinctive artistic style and technical prowess, drawing inspiration from local tragedies, folklore, and the everyday lives of the Cypriot people.
