A festival dedicated to celebrating crushed green olives is just around the corner! The 53rd edition of this beloved event will take place in Tseri on Friday, offering a unique blend of traditional activities and flavors. The Crushed Olives Festival, the town’s longest-standing cultural celebration, has been organized since 1969 and will transform the central square (near the historic Church of Saints Andronikos and Athanasia) into a vibrant space filled with the olive-based products that Tseri is famous for.
A Celebration of Tradition and Taste
In addition to showcasing delicious olives, the festival will highlight folk traditions, with live music and traditional food available throughout the event. As in previous years, the festival is made possible through the hard work and dedication of volunteers from the Anagenisis Tseriou Association.
Honoring Tseri’s Agricultural Roots
The festival’s organizers are passionate about preserving Tseri’s rich agricultural heritage, which revolves around olive cultivation. They emphasize the festival’s significance, noting, “Though Tseri is becoming more urbanized, it has a long history of agriculture and livestock farming. The region is now known for its production of olives and olive oil, and in 2019, Tseri was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list for its olives.” The name Crushed Olives Festival is tied to the harvest season of green olives, which are typically processed as crushed olives.
Enjoy Local Delights
Festival-goers will have the opportunity to taste Tseri’s olives in various forms, with a market showcasing traditional products, food stalls, and drink stations. All the while, a live Greek music program will entertain visitors, adding to the festive atmosphere.
