This Saturday, the United by Pride event will bring together communities from across the island with two simultaneous marches in Nicosia. The marches will start at 6pm, departing from Eleftheria Square in the south and Kuğulu Park in the north, converging at the Ledra Palace buffer zone an hour later, symbolizing unity in diversity. Following the march, the celebration will continue with music, DJ sets, and live performances by local artists, bringing a festive atmosphere to the event.
A Call for Unity and Resistance
“This year’s United by Pride is not just a celebration of diversity,” say the event’s organizers, including ACCEPT LGBTI Cyprus, African LGBTIQ+ Community Cyprus, LGBT Filipinas, Queer Collective Cy, and Queer Cyprus. It is also a powerful act of unity and resistance against the increasing challenges faced by the community, both locally and regionally. The event underscores the critical need for cooperation, solidarity, and action, especially given Cyprus’ ongoing political landscape, where division continues to hinder progress toward building a peaceful and inclusive society.
The Importance of United by Pride
Launched by Queer Collective CY, this marks the third edition of United by Pride, uniting people and organizations with a shared vision. This year’s event is intended to serve as a strong call for peace, reunification, and the protection of LGBTQIA+ rights.
“United by Pride is more than just a local celebration,” organizers conclude. “It is a statement against discrimination and segregation, emphasizing that peace, reunification, and LGBTQIA+ rights are non-negotiable values.”
