A Look into Cyprus’ History through Skammata
Set against the backdrop of present-day Cyprus, “Skammata” revisits events from 50 years ago, focusing on the aftermath of the coup d’état and the Turkish invasion of 1974. Through the eyes of both foreign and Cypriot archaeologists and retired members of the Department of Antiquities, the film dives into personal memories and reflections on the collective trauma caused by the war. It also highlights the profound impact these events had on the island’s archaeological landscape.
Incorporating archival footage from excavations alongside personal testimonies, “Skammata” offers a powerful narrative of the major historical moments that shaped Cypriot archaeology both before and after the devastating summer of 1974.
