Moonlight, the Sea, and Music Collide at MoonWalk
Imagine a full moon illuminating the sparkling sea while melodies fill the air. These elements combine to create the annual MoonWalk event in Protaras, turning the coastal promenade into an enormous open-air concert venue. From Ayios Nikolaos Chapel to Fig Tree Bay, over 30 stages will be set up along the walkway, featuring 132 local musicians performing live throughout the night. Best of all, this spectacular event is completely free for all attendees.
This year’s MoonWalk 2024 – Rising Moon Edition takes place shortly after September’s full moon, inviting both locals and visitors to enjoy a magical evening filled with music. As the moon rises, people are encouraged to stroll along the coastal path, soaking in the diverse music performances, from bands and ensembles to solo artists. The event kicks off at 8:06 pm this Friday, with live music echoing along the promenade until 10 pm.
A Celebration of Culture and Community
According to the organisers, Paralimni Youth, “MoonWalk 2024 is a cultural event set along a scenic coastal path in Cyprus, aimed at celebrating the beauty of the moonrise while promoting local culture.” The event provides a unique 6km walk by the sea, where attendees can enjoy live music performances, stargazing, dance showcases, and delicious local treats from nearby eateries and food stalls.
The organisers also emphasize the event’s inclusive nature, ensuring the entire path is accessible to individuals with disabilities. “It’s more than just a walk; it’s a celebration of community, culture, and the natural beauty of the area. This makes MoonWalk a standout cultural gathering in the region.”
A Diverse Musical Experience
As participants walk along the coastline, they can stop at various stages featuring simultaneous performances. The event promises a wide range of musical genres to suit all tastes. From rembetiko to rumba-flamenco, and from jazz to rock, the selection spans Greek entechno, Cuban beats, swing, and more.
