The vibrant city of Larnaca is preparing to come alive with the soulful sounds of live jazz as the highly anticipated Larnaka Jazz Festival returns for its second year. Set against the backdrop of Zouhouri Square, the festival will unfold over two exciting nights, Thursday and Friday, offering a fantastic experience of free performances and complimentary beer for all attendees.
This year’s festival features an impressive lineup, bringing together renowned musicians from Cyprus and beyond, alongside emerging artists ready to showcase their talents. Kicking off the 2024 edition will be the highly respected Vasilis Xenopoulos, a well-known figure in the English jazz scene. He will be accompanied by his quintet, which includes some of Cyprus’ finest musicians. Following their performance, a dynamic ensemble of 10 instrumentalists and two vocalists—Alex Economou and Alice Ayvazian—will take the stage to perform jazz standards infused with a Latin twist, under the direction of George Morfitis.
The second evening promises just as much excitement, starting with Charlotte Storer and her quintet, featuring guest guitarist Olaf Lansberg. Next, the stage will be taken by Thanos Stavridis, a talented Greek musician, whose performance will be influenced by the sounds of Balkan Jazz. To close out the festival, the enchanting voice of South African singer Marguerita Freeks and her band will deliver a memorable performance, once again directed by the talented George Morfitis.
Curated by Akis Pharmakalides, the Larnaka Jazz Festival is designed to be enjoyed by everyone, from seasoned jazz enthusiasts to newcomers to the genre. The event promises to be a cultural highlight in Larnaca, making it a must-attend occasion for music lovers.
