Paphos is set to experience an unforgettable cello and piano recital as part of the Technopolis 20 Classics series. This musical event will take place on Wednesday at the Markidio Theatre, featuring the remarkable talents of Ángeles Iglesias, a celebrated Spanish pianist, and Robertas Grod, a distinguished Lithuanian cellist. The performance, starting at 8pm, will guide the audience through a captivating exploration of the musical traditions of Spain, France, and Brazil.
“This concert will be a tribute to the richness of cultural and musical heritage, offering listeners a chance to journey through various musical landscapes, spanning different continents and historical periods,” the event organizers remarked.
The evening’s program will open with Manuel de Falla’s Spanish Dance, followed by Gaspar Cassadó’s Requiebros, a piece known for its lyrical beauty and technical brilliance. The Spanish theme will continue with de Falla’s Four Popular Spanish Songs, each one embodying a distinct facet of Spain’s musical heritage.
The first half of the performance will conclude with Claude Debussy’s Sonata in D Minor, offering a taste of French Impressionism, creating a sharp yet beautiful contrast to the earlier Spanish works. In the second half, the musicians will present two expressive compositions by Heitor Villa-Lobos, reflecting the enchanting qualities of Brazilian music. To close the evening, the duo will perform César Franck’s Sonata in A Major, a celebrated piece that highlights the emotional depth of the cello and piano repertoire.
For those seeking more live music, Technopolis 20 will continue its musical events later this week with concerts focused on Greek music on Friday, and jazz performances on Monday.
