Embrace Larnaca’s Inclusive and Creative CARE Festival
The second annual CARE Festival, presented by Larnaka 2030, is set to return this November over two weekends. Focused on art and inclusivity, the festival invites everyone, from families and young people to mothers, women, and educators, to participate in a vibrant mix of activities. By fostering a “mother-city” ethos, the CARE Festival is committed to nurturing Larnaca’s future generations with artistic experiences that promote connection and care.
Visitors can anticipate an exciting array of theatre and music performances, hands-on workshops, storytelling sessions, and interactive social games that will appeal to all ages.
Where and When: Festival Locations and Dates
The CARE Festival will enliven multiple venues across Larnaca and its surrounding areas, taking place on November 8-10 and 16-17. Partnering with the Cultural Foundation for Children and Youth and the Pierides Foundation, the festival will transform both public and private spaces, creating a network of accessible and welcoming environments for a diverse audience. Uniquely, many activities will cater to participants with physical, neurodevelopmental, and visual disabilities and will be conducted in Greek, English, and Ukrainian.
First Weekend Highlights: November 8-10
The festival’s opening weekend will kick off with a variety of events for different age groups. Beginning with a theatrical performance, Clothes? What Clothes?, at the Larnaca Municipal Theatre on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m., the schedule continues with diverse workshops and performances designed to inspire creativity and community spirit.
Saturday’s Highlights:
- Building a Common Ground Through Dancing: This engaging dance workshop for participants 16 and older will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. near Larnaca’s Medieval Castle.
- Let’s Build a Lighthouse: At this creative session for children, held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., participants will use natural materials like shells and pebbles to craft their own lighthouse models. Available in English and Ukrainian, this activity encourages imaginative exploration.
Additional Saturday Activities:
- A storytelling and theatre games session, presented in Greek, will be hosted at Youth Makerspace Larnaka.
- The Young Cooks: Cooking for the Environment workshop at the Pierides Museum aims to teach eco-friendly cooking practices to children. Through games on food waste and easy-to-make recipes, this workshop combines fun and environmental education.
As evening falls, performances will animate Larnaca’s streets. The Let’s Start a Conversation walking performance, starting at the pier at 5 p.m. and concluding at Mesogeios Park, will feature 15 dance schools and the Larnaca Music School. Along Piale Pasha, dancers will engage with audiences, prompting conversation through a unique question-and-answer card game.
The weekend will wrap up with a non-verbal theatrical performance by Ahmad Jubeh and Ramzi Maqdisi from the Palestinian National Theatre. This performance, at Larnaca Municipal Theatre G Lykourgos on Sunday at 6 p.m., invites viewers of all backgrounds, including those with hearing, physical, and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Second Weekend Events: November 16-17
The festival’s second weekend will present another set of six diverse events, combining art with themes of social issues and mental health. These sessions promise to bring attention to meaningful topics while enriching Larnaca’s cultural scene.
