September is set to be filled with exciting events and local festivals, and the community of Xylofagou is eagerly gearing up for the latest edition of the International Potato Festival. This celebration of the region’s potato produce and all things potato-related will bring together farmers, producers, artists, and visitors at the KYPEP Packing Facility’s outdoor area—a prominent potato packaging company—on September 20. The festival, now returning with even more enhancements, promises surprises, delicious flavors, and a variety of entertainment.
Festival Opening and Parade
As the sun begins to set, the festival will kick off, filling the streets with lively music and dance. The festivities will start with a parade leading to the festival grounds. The evening will feature a rich musical program, showcasing the sounds of Cyprus, the Aegean, and Asia Minor, with performances by dance troupes and traditional musical ensembles. A major highlight will be the performance by renowned singers Glykeria and Melina Kana, joined by Haris Makris and Dimitris Mesimeris, creating a memorable evening of music.
Culinary Delights and Exhibitions
In addition to the entertainment, the festival will offer an exhibition of local produce and a variety of food stalls serving up tasty potato-based dishes. Chef Stavris Georgiou will take center stage for a live cooking demonstration, where he will showcase his unique gourmet potato recipes and culinary creations. The festival will also include an agricultural exhibition, providing insights into the potato farming industry and traditional craftsmanship.
