Youth of Ecologists, Ecological Movement of Cyprus, Centre for Social Innovation, and RESET-Research and Education in Social Empowerment and Transformation are joining forces once again this summer for the established nationwide beach clean-up campaign and sea waste assessment, branded as Wish You Were Clean Vol V. Scheduled across four dates from late June to early August, these events aim to combat pollution and safeguard Cyprus’s natural environment.
The primary objective of the campaign extends beyond shoreline debris removal; it seeks to raise public consciousness about the critical need to reduce pollution in marine and coastal areas. Additionally, the clean-up efforts and scientific waste documentation highlight the pressing issue of plastic waste in marine ecosystems and its potential impact on human health. Recent studies have even detected microplastic particles in human blood for the first time, underscoring the urgency of addressing this environmental challenge.
Central to its mission, the campaign promotes volunteerism, community cohesion, and a profound respect for nature. It emphasizes the fulfillment derived from contributing positively to environmental preservation. The series kicks off at Caretta Beach in Larnaca on June 30th at 9am, followed by events at Siren’s Beach in Agia Thekla on July 14th, Lady’s Mile in Limassol on August 25th, and concludes at Lara Beach in Paphos on August 31st at 10am.
