Breathing life into the streets of old Kaimakli, the 2024 Let’s Go Kaimakli Festival is set to transform the neighborhood with art, urban installations, and community-focused activities. Scheduled for September 20-22, this festival aims to bring the Kaimakli community together, fostering connections between locals and international participants through a vibrant blend of culture and social engagement.
Pre-Festival Transformations
In the lead-up to the official festival, Kaimakli will experience a series of pre-festival activities designed to reimagine the area. Over 20 locations—including houses, shops, terraces, rooftops, and the buffer zone—will be activated, welcoming more than 40 artists. The collaboration with local residents will create an interconnected and lively atmosphere, blending art with daily life.
Festival Theme: RE*OPEN
The theme for this year, RE*OPEN, builds on the festival’s previous concepts like Open Windows, Open Doors, and Open Kitchen, expanding the boundaries of traditional art spaces. It focuses on Stratification and Spaces in Between, encouraging artists to delve into the layered histories and social heritage of Kaimakli. By doing so, the festival aims to merge traditional and contemporary art forms, offering a multicultural experience that reflects the diverse makeup of the local community.
Three Days of Artistic Exploration
Spanning three days, the Let’s Go Kaimakli Festival will showcase a rich variety of artistic expressions from both local and international artists. Visitors can expect a range of activities, including music, theatre, film screenings, bike rides, workshops, sensory installations, and dance performances. The festival will conclude with a special performance of the play Out of Necessity, returning to a public space in a fresh, updated version.
