Though the 10th anniversary of Windcraft Music Fest has concluded, the spirit of the festival lingers in Katydata village and among the organizing team. After hosting a vibrant edition that brought together artists from around the globe, the festival has one last surprise before summer’s end. An exhibition, literary corner, and concert are planned in the charming village that has become synonymous with the event. Mark your calendars for September 1—the celebration isn’t over yet.
A Day of Culture and Music
Alongside the concerts and free workshops that are the hallmark of the festival, this year introduced the Sounds of Memory exhibition and the Armarouthkia space at Stavrinos’ Inn. These installations were part of Windcraft Music Fest 10 and will reopen for one day on September 1 from 11 am to 7 pm. Visitors can explore the exhibits during the day, and in the evening, the Inn’s inner courtyard will host a concert by the music group Maly to bid farewell to summer.
Exploring the Sounds of Memory
The Sounds of Memory exhibition showcases a collection of objects with untold stories. Though made of clay, wood, metal, and stone, these objects come to life through the voices of Katydata’s villagers who once used them. “We have defied oblivion by ‘inspiring’ these objects,” say the organizers, “through the stories shared by the men and women of Katydata who transformed these materials into life.” Visitors are invited to step into the Inn, stand between the manger and the fireplace, and listen to the soundscape that will take them on a journey through memory, exploring the stories these objects hold. The exhibition features the works and stories of Aliki Papapetrou, Anthoula Tofaridou, Elli Stavrinou-Frantzidou, Lella Kokkinidou, Maria Andreou, Pambos Savvides, and Stefanos Michael.
Literary Treasures at Armarouthkia
Within the mud-brick room of the Inn lies an eye-catching cabinet that hosts the Armarouthkia action, where books by Cypriot authors await. Visitors will find poetry, science books, and children’s literature on the shelves, inviting them to browse, flip through, and read. On September 1, these books will be available for exploration once more, after which the collection will continue its journey to the lending library of the Evrychous’ Youth Multicentre, managed by the Youth Board of Cyprus.
A Musical Farewell to Summer
At 7 pm, the concert will begin with the Maly music group taking the stage. Vassilis Philippou (vocals, percussion, ney, compositions) and Odysseas Toumazou (guitar, compositions) will present music inspired by the sounds of Cyprus, blending original compositions with traditional pieces that explore the relationship between past and present against the backdrop of the Cypriot landscape. The event promises to be a fitting finale to a summer of cultural enrichment, and best of all, it’s completely free.
