As the August heat persists, anticipation for a new season of cultural events is building. Come September, the cultural calendar will be packed with new productions, performances, and events for all to enjoy. Leading the charge, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra has meticulously planned its artistic season for 2024 and 2025, promising a series of inspiring concerts. Kicking off in September, these musical evenings will feature collaborations with prominent organizations and distinguished artists from Cyprus and the global music scene.
Exciting New Series
Alongside its traditional offerings, the orchestra is introducing two new concert series: Family Concerts and Chamber Music Concerts. The Family Concerts will feature imaginative and specially designed programs for young audiences and their families, providing an entertaining yet educational experience.
The Chamber Music Series will showcase a vibrant mix of ensembles formed by CySO musicians. These concerts will present adventurous programs ranging from mainstream classical music to lesser-known and crossover pieces, offering something for every musical taste.
Season Kickoff
To launch the new season, the orchestra will head to the west coast for the Pafos Aphrodite Festival in September. On September 6 and 7, at the Medieval Castle Square, they will perform the world-famous opera La Traviata in collaboration with the Chorus of the Tbilisi State Opera and the Tbilisi State Ballet.
Following this, a Music in the City concert is scheduled for September 20 at Eleftheria Square. Starting at 8 PM, the orchestra will perform popular classical and romantic pieces, bringing music to the heart of the city.
Special Collaboration
The final concert in September will see the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra join forces with award-winning singer Alexia Vassiliou. On September 30, at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, they will celebrate the 30th anniversary of her internationally acclaimed, multi-platinum album, Alexia Performs the Classics. This concert will feature young musicians, the orchestra’s choir, and elite musicians from Alexia’s jazz band.
The repertoire will include songs from the golden era of Greek cinema and Greek jazz from the 1930s to the 1960s. The performance will revive melodies, harmonies, and masterful orchestrations, celebrating the fusion of the original big band sound with a symphonic tapestry.
Upcoming Concerts
October will bring four more concert series to various cities, setting the stage for a diverse winter program of concerts in November and December.
