As November kicks off, Cyprus is brimming with autumnal activities. This is the perfect time for scenic road trips, nature outings, and an array of pop-up events. Throughout the first weekend of the month, look forward to street food markets, fashion bazaars, movie nights, and fresh festivals focusing on Cyprus’ natural environment. Here’s what’s happening!
Ongoing Festivals to Dive Into
Two major festivals are already in full swing.
- Cyprus International Film Festival – Golden Aphrodite CYIFF: Running until Saturday, this renowned film festival marks its 19th edition with an impressive lineup. The festival offers film screenings, an awards ceremony, workshops, a photography exhibition, lectures, and walking tours. The Cyprus International Film Festival continues to be a pivotal event for cinephiles and creatives, with plenty to experience until November 2 at Melina Merkouri Hall, Nicosia.
- Sustainable Pediaios River Festival: Making its debut this year, this eco-focused festival, organized by the Environment Commissioner alongside the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative, offers the community a chance to connect with nature. Running through Sunday, this festival features a whopping 68 activities along the Pediaios River, including a beach cleanup in Famagusta, street art installations, tree planting, guided tours, workshops, live music, hiking excursions, and even stargazing. Perfect for families and nature lovers alike, the festival takes place across Nicosia and surrounding areas.
New Festival Alert: Back to the Roots Festival
Another first-time event, the Back to the Roots Festival, takes place in the quaint village of Arakapas this Saturday. Centered around environmental restoration and cultural celebration, this festival promises a day filled with art exhibitions, workshops, documentary screenings, creative workshops, and nature talks. Visitors can also participate in tree-planting activities to help restore vegetation on degraded lands, making it an enriching way to enjoy the outdoors while giving back to nature.
End-of-Year Street Food Celebration
This Friday, the last Fork Food Market of the year will transform Parko Glypton in Geri, Nicosia, into a vibrant hub for street food enthusiasts. From 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM, guests can enjoy a variety of culinary delights, with food stalls serving a range of bites, refreshing cocktails, and beers. The evening will be set to a lively soundtrack spun by DJ SS, providing a groovy end-of-year celebration for all food lovers.
Saturday’s Lineup of Unique Events
Saturday brings even more activities across the island:
- Fashion Bazaar: For style enthusiasts, a Fashion Bazaar will take place at Prodromou Polychoros in Nicosia’s old Strovolos area. From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday, this pop-up market will showcase quality modern clothing and accessories for all tastes.
- End of Harvest Party: Head to Zambartas Winery in Ayios Ambrosios village for a festive End of Harvest Party. The event will feature live performances by jazz rockers Fuzz Bus and Cypriot singer Michalis Tterlikkas. A selection of local wines will also be available to celebrate the grape harvest season. The event will run from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with adult tickets priced at €25 (includes a glass of wine and an engraved wine glass) and €18 for children.
