Prepare for the return of a beloved local festival in the charming village of Salamiou, Paphos, as it gears up for its 23rd edition. The Countryside Animafest Cyprus Views of the World is one of Cyprus’s oldest festivals, attracting artists, visitors, and young enthusiasts eager to delve into the world of animation. With the latest edition set for August 9-12, organizers have crafted an impressive schedule of screenings, events, and workshops.
Festival Kickoff on August 9
The activities begin on August 9 at 7:15 PM with a concert at the festival stage, featuring live performances by Maria Spivak and Orestis Telemachou. Following the concert, the International Competition for Young Audience screenings will commence at 8:30 PM, leading into the main International Competition program. The first day will wrap up with a special 11:30 PM screening of a documentary by graffiti artists expressing their discontent with Cypriot socio-political issues.
Second Day Highlights
Day two’s events start at 5 PM with the Cyprus Panorama (Out of Competition) section. An exhibition opening at 6 PM will showcase artists’ work, accompanied by the Jassba band, featuring Ulaş Öğüç on drums, William Scott on saxophone and clarinet, and Manos Stratis on double bass. Additional music will follow with a 7:15 PM performance by Yiannis Koutis, leading into more film screenings. Both in and out of competition films, special screenings, and animation films will be presented.
Sunday Activities and Awards
Sunday will feature more music concerts and film screenings, culminating in the Awards Ceremony announcing the festival’s winners. The final day includes music performances, screenings of animated music videos, and a closing event with DJs Cotsios o Pikatillis and Koulla Katsikoronou.

This year’s festival also includes three exhibitions. In Exhibition Space A, Marko Tadić will present his work, while Space B features a collaborative project by Haris Pellapaisiotis with a portable photo studio. In Space C, Elena Agathokleous will showcase a short video.
Additionally, an animation workshop for both children and adults will be available, alongside an interactive workshop on ethnographic material and oral histories collection.
