BirdLife Cyprus and the AG Leventis Gallery are set to unveil the LIFE with Vultures exhibition next week, offering a compelling glimpse into the efforts to safeguard the Griffon Vulture population in Cyprus from extinction. This showcase, comprising a photography exhibition and a documentary screening, will open its doors on June at the AG Leventis Gallery and will welcome visitors until July 7.
This exhibition represents the culmination of the LIFE with Vultures project, a collaborative initiative spanning five years and co-funded by the EU. Its primary aim has been to protect the Griffon Vulture population in Cyprus. By targeting key threats such as poisoning, collisions, and electrocution, alongside efforts to ensure sustainable food sources and bolster the local population through the introduction of birds from Spain, this project stands as a significant milestone in the ongoing battle to preserve Cyprus’s iconic bird species.
The photography exhibition showcases the work of acclaimed photographer Silvio A Rusmigo, whose stunning images capture not only the majesty of the Griffon Vulture but also its habitat, feeding behaviors, interactions with humans, and the tireless conservation efforts dedicated to its survival.
Accompanying the exhibition is a 30-minute documentary that delves deep into the heart of the LIFE with Vultures project. Through interviews and field footage, this documentary brings to life the challenges, triumphs, and the passionate individuals who have driven forward this vital conservation initiative, highlighting the critical importance of preserving this iconic species for future generations.
