During the Holy Week, Easter festivities may have dominated the events scene, but cultural activities are poised to make a comeback. In the upcoming week, a series of live music shows will grace venues across the island, kicking off with a swing and jazz spectacle in Trimiklini.
At John’s Restaurant on Thursday, May 9, The Workin’ Trio (comprising Charis Ioannou, Christos Yerolatsitis, and Marios Spyrou) will unleash their saxophones, drums, and organ for an evening filled with invigorating swing rhythms infused with gospel, New Orleans, and jazz melodies.
The following night, Billy Jo Sports and Rock Bar in Limassol will groove to the sounds of Triple Soul, offering a fusion of soul and funky beats. Since 2010, this Limassol-based ensemble (featuring George Kalopedis, George Krasides, Constantinos Paouros, Evelthon Michaelides, and Andonis Polycarpou) has been igniting stages with their dynamic performances, blending soul, funk, and jazz.
Meanwhile, in Paphos, O’Neills Irish Bar & Grill will host Mid-Life Crisis on Saturday, May 11, belting out rock hits from the 70s onwards and popular covers. The five-piece band will hit the stage around 8.30pm, delivering a spirited performance.
Taking a different tone, a concert at the Cyprus Wine Museum on May 12 will be part of the Commandaria Orchestra & Friends Concert Series. The Stabat Mater: Pergolesi concert will showcase Anoki von Arx (mezzo-soprano), Vasiliki Konstantinou (soprano), and Milena Romanova (piano).
They will present the Stabat Mater sequence, a 13th-century Christian hymn to Mary, depicting her anguish as Jesus Christ’s mother during his crucifixion. This deeply moving piece, composed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, will be performed alongside works by JS Bach, Handel, Chopin, and Beethoven. The concert begins at 7pm and will also enchant Paphos audiences on May 20 at Technopolis 20.
