Reviving Culture at the Faneromeni24 Arts Festival
Once again, culture bursts into life as the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in the Faneromeni area welcomes the public to a stunning arts festival. Attendees will be treated to dance performances, concerts, and a distinctive cinema experience. The 2024 edition kicks off on July 11 with a musical performance and continues until the end of September, offering cultural experiences for both young and old.
Celebrating 40 Years of Cultural Heritage
In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the Cultural Foundation presents an exceptional blend of the arts, taking visitors on a journey from the past to the present and back again. By employing cutting-edge techniques, the Faneromeni24 Arts Festival redefines the history and life of Cyprus, from antiquity to today, with a central theme focused on the island’s non-negotiable unity.
A Musical and Poetic Journey Through Time
The festival will unfold a musical and poetic journey that spans from the past to the present, showcasing the rich folk culture of Cyprus. It will feature cherished folk and artistic Cypriot songs, along with poetry by both famous and lesser-known poets who have captured the island’s vibrant history.
Highlight Performances
- A Journey in Time: Ancient, Medieval, and Traditional Music of Cyprus (July 18): The Sibil•la Ensemble, along with Cypriot and Greek musicians, will perform a concert that combines various historical periods and aesthetic trends. The program will include songs from ancient Cypriot rituals, medieval compositions from the Cyprus Codex, and traditional folk music.
- P.S. CYPRUS (September 5): The Valitsa Intra Portas theatre ensemble will present a devised theatre performance that delves into Cyprus’s history through the writings and testimonies of foreign travelers. Four actors will recreate a traditional gathering, evoking memories of the past.
- Seeking Europe-Varosha 2024 AD (September 12): Musician Vangelis Gettos and Italian dancer Erika Guastamacchia, under the direction of choreographer Giulio De Leo, will deliver a complex dance performance. This event will feature live music and video art, drawing inspiration from the myth of the Abduction of Europa and incorporating clips from inside Varosha.
- The Pulse of Life (September 26): The festival’s closing performance is a music and dance event by the Mires dance duet, Ianthi Sparsi and Dervish Zeybek, with the Mystics Tribal Fusion dance team and the MA*GAIA drummers. Inspired by ancient female drummers and dancers, this performance celebrates the primeval drum and connects music and dance to religious worship and the ever-pulsating universe.
