The much-loved play that captivated audiences in Greece and Cyprus is back for a limited engagement. Presented in collaboration with Wherehaus 612 and Point To, the third run of Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche premieres on January 6. This time, select performances will feature English subtitles, making it accessible to a broader audience.
A Groundbreaking Production Returns
Originally penned by Andrew Hobgood and Evan Linder, this witty and daring play first made its Greek debut under the direction of Evita Ioannou during the theYard.Residency.21 programme at the MITOS Performing Arts Centre. It premiered in December 2021, achieving remarkable success with 35 sold-out performances across Limassol, Nicosia, and Athens. Now, the production is returning to Nicosia’s Wherehaus 612, with performances scheduled on Mondays. The January 13 show will include English surtitles, welcoming non-Greek-speaking audiences.
A Quiche Competition Amid Chaos
Set in 1956, the play unfolds during the annual meeting of the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Gertrude Stein Fraternity, hosted in a church basement. The highlight of the gathering? A fiercely contested quiche competition. These women have an unparalleled passion for quiche—so much so that their motto is: “No men, no meat, only good behaviour.”
However, the quirky event takes a dark turn when a nuclear explosion devastates the outside world. As survival instincts kick in, the women are compelled to confront their deepest secrets and grapple with their sexual identities, leading to moments of humor, tension, and self-discovery.
