This September, Cyprus will host two spectacular opera productions, enriching the island’s cultural landscape with talent from both local and international artists. These events promise to bring together dancers, musicians, and choirs for an unforgettable experience.
Pafos Aphrodite Festival Presents La Traviata
Making a highly anticipated return, the Pafos Aphrodite Festival will feature a performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata. Taking place on September 6 and 7, the picturesque Paphos Castle Square will be transformed into an open-air opera theater. This iconic opera will be brought to life by the acclaimed Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, in collaboration with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, all under the baton of conductor Levan Jagaev.
Limassol Hosts Madama Butterfly
Later in the month, the city of Limassol will host performances of Madama Butterfly, the celebrated opera by Giacomo Puccini, as part of a tribute to mark the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death in 1924. These special performances will be held on September 17 and 19 at the Pattihio Limassol Municipal Theatre.
The production will feature a collaboration of the Choir of Opera Cyprus, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Limassol, and nine talented soloists. The show will be conducted by Maestro Piergiorgio Del Nunzio and directed by Paolo Baiocco, with the role of the protagonist sung by the renowned Cypriot soprano Maria Papaioannou.
