This July, downtown Nicosia becomes a vibrant hub for creative expression with a series of engaging artistic workshops. These workshops welcome participants of all ages and backgrounds to explore Cyprus’ rich arts and craftsmanship scene. Organised by Nicosia HUB-IN, these workshops follow the success of their Heritage Walks, which attracted around 1,000 participants from April to June. This time, the organisation partners with local artists to offer immersive cultural and craft experiences, introducing visitors to the city’s creative industry within the historical walls.
Workshop Schedule and Highlights
Five workshops are scheduled for July, with one already concluded. The next workshop, set for Wednesday, invites adults to delve into the art of engraving as an independent visual creation form. Held at the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, this session will be led by Cypriot artists Eyklides Papadopoulos and Despina Pringi, who will teach participants the linotype technique. This workshop will be repeated on July 24.
On Thursday, Camila Calegari Marques will lead a workshop titled Laser-cut Assembly Lamps – From Design to Fabrication. Participants will learn to design and produce table lamps using digital fabrication and the laser-cut technique. This workshop aims to raise awareness about the declining traditional crafts of Cyprus, reviving the Fythkiotika textile patterns in a modern product. This session is also for adults and will run from 10 AM to 3 PM at CYENS Thinker Makerspace.
Following this, a kids’ workshop will be hosted at CYENS by Irini Klokkari. This workshop, titled Traditional Patterns – Stamped Bandanas, will take children on a historical journey to the 19th century when head and waist scarves were popular in Cypriot fashion for both men and women. Children aged 7 to 12 will get to create their own bandanas stamped with traditional patterns, rich in shapes and colors. This workshop will be held on Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM.
On July 25, three artists, Georgia Petroudi, Giorgos Christophi, and Eva Stavrou, will blend music and visual arts through live performance, projections, and digital applications. This workshop, titled Sounds of Nicosia – An Interaction Between Music and Visual Arts, offers participants a chance to explore the dynamic interplay between sound and image. It is an afternoon workshop for adults starting at 5:30 PM at CYENS.
