A new group exhibition in Paphos brings together the island’s contemporary art scene to celebrate the transformation and legacy of a historic hotel. Curated by Andros Efstathiou, the “Metamorphosis” exhibition will run from Friday to September 6 at Almyra Boutique Hotel, aiming to redefine the relationship between modern art and architectural spaces.
“How unknown and how well-known to us is the iconic building that was introduced to us in the 1970s as the Paphos Beach Hotel and later, in the late 2000s, as Almyra Boutique Hotel?” ask the organisers. “Throughout its transformation, the building changed and evolved but maintained its core idea of hospitality.”
Organised by Isnotgallery, the exhibition takes place within the premises of Almyra Hotel, showcasing the works of 15 artists. The curator seeks to redefine the relationship between communal non-exhibition spaces and public art by placing works by these great visual artists. Displayed around the hotel, the artworks open up new conversations on contemporary art and how and where viewers interact with it.
Participating artists include Giorgos Lappas, Christina Papaioannou, Cacorocks, Haroula Nikolaidou, Konstantinos Stephanou, Andreas Skoufaris, Stavros Kikas, Elena Tsigaridou, Antonis Tziarridis, Theano Giannezi, Sofia Fotiadou, Andros Efstathiou, Panikos Tembriotis, Barnabe, and Mariela Bilitsa.
