The latest installment of the group exhibition Land[e]scapes, presented by Art Seen, unfolds this week in Nicosia. Curated by Maria Stathi, the showcase features works by 17 artists delving into humanity’s connection with nature, geography, time, and place.
Land[e]scapes gathers a diverse array of artists, including Chris Akordalitis, Panayiotis Andreou, Serena Caulfield, Benjamin Deakin, Marina Genadieva, Andreas Kalli, Nicolas Kyrillou, Panayiotis Michael, Vicky Pericleous, Nicos Philippou & Marilena Zackheos, Amy Stephens, Korallia Stergides, Amikam Toren, Vassia A. Vanezi, Shaheer Zazai, and Vasilis Zografos.
At its core, the exhibition explores landscape as a rich tapestry interwoven with cultural, social, and environmental narratives. It serves as a platform for artists to depict their interpretations of nature and its significance to human existence.
Each artwork encapsulates different facets of landscape, from lush vegetation to rugged terrains, offering viewers a chance to reflect on their relationship with the natural world and how it shapes their identity.
Moreover, the exhibition acknowledges how landscapes are not just depictions of nature but also reflections of the artists’ experiences and the broader historical and cultural contexts in which they exist. Particularly in areas marked by conflict, colonialism, or environmental upheaval, landscapes serve as poignant reminders of the complexities of human existence.
Visitors to the exhibition will encounter a plethora of themes, including environmental consciousness, geological wonders, the impact of war on landscapes, nostalgic journeys, and mythical realms. Each artwork acts as a portal, inviting viewers to explore both tangible and imagined worlds.
In addition to the exhibition, a series of accompanying events will be held until June 28. These include a performance by Korallia Stergides on June 12, a guided walk and discussion with the artists and curator on June 26, and an educational program for children aged six to ten.
