Our Institute is a Member of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region
The Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health (CII, or the Institute) was established in 2004 and has been operating at the Cyprus University of Technology since 2009 based on a relevant agreement between the Cyprus Government, TEPAK, and the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health . The Institute now operates independently, building on the expertise and experience gained from the 10-year-plus agreement with the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, which has come to an end.
Evaluation of 10 years of academic work
Since its foundation in 2004, the Institute was the first research institution in Cyprus to deal exclusively with public and environmental health issues and now demonstrates its >10-year presence in the academic and research activities of Cyprus, through the offering of successful Masters and Ph.D. programs, the conduct of population studies, but also the extensive scientific collaboration with the School of Public Health of Harvard University and other agencies.
The last few years have presented new challenges for public health in Cyprus which will require specialized treatment and management of their effects on the general population, both in the short and medium term.
Horizontal pressures on public health, such as the various aspects of climate change, migration, population growth in cities and population aging, require a systematic evaluation of any effects of these pressures on public health, which is also highlighted by the corresponding attention that the above topics receive from the European Commission.
