Festival season is still in full swing across Cyprus, and the island’s villages and rural areas are alive with celebrations of local culture, life, and seasonal cuisine. One exciting upcoming event will shine the spotlight on a traditional summer favorite – Ofto Kleftiko.
Peristerona’s Own Kleftiko Celebration
While the village of Meneou is often known for its Kleftiko festivals, which recently hosted its annual celebration, this September, another village will be paying tribute to this classic Cypriot dish. On September 21, the community of Peristerona will host the 4th Ofto Festival at its elementary school.
Evening of Food, Music, and Entertainment
The festivities will kick off at 5 p.m., offering an evening full of delicious food, music, and entertainment. Renowned Cypriot TV chef Chryso Lefou will be a special guest, demonstrating how to prepare traditional food and desserts from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. She’ll be joined by chef Christos Tomashi and baker Agapi Ioannou. Attendees can not only watch the cooking demonstrations but also learn new recipes and cooking tips. Additionally, local vendors will be selling regional products, snacks, and treats at various stalls.
A Hearty Kleftiko Meal and Live Music
No Ofto Festival would be complete without serving the iconic Ofto Kleftiko to its visitors. Included in the €15 ticket price is a Kleftiko meal and access to a lively music program. Giannis Theotokis, Cleopatra Topazou, and Constantinos Asprou will take the stage, performing a vibrant mix of Greek music to entertain and uplift the crowd.
