The Lympia Theatre Festival is back this August and September, celebrating its 18th edition. From August 27 to September 8, the Idalion Amphitheatre on the outskirts of Nicosia will once again host a series of theatrical performances featuring talents from Cyprus and Greece. The festival promises eight captivating evenings for the island’s Greek-speaking audience.
Opening Night
The festival kicks off on August 27 with Black Money, a play by Ray Cooney. Directed by Sophocles Sophocleous and Sophocles Kaskaounias, the local theatre group Paravasi Lympia will bring this production to life for one night only. The following evening, Parodia Theatre Group will stage the local production Souppa Louma, written by Dorotheos Dorotheou.
Mid-Festival Highlights
On August 30, the group Apokliroi-Skinovates will present Aristophanes’ Ecclesiazusae, translated by Kostas Montis and directed by Myria Choplarou. Moving into September, the first performance of the month will be Double Game, an adaptation of Robert Thomas’ work by Eleni Antoniou, presented by Tabula Rasa on September 1.
Closing Performances
The festival continues with Kalo Chorio Larnaca Cultural Association Theatre Group showcasing We Are Losing the Uncle on September 3. On September 4, Derynia Municipality’s theatre group will perform Gambros gia Klamataa. The final two performances include Teatro Angelico’s Till Death Do Us Part? on September 6 and Vourate na Armasoume tin Andrianou by Geroskipou’s theatre group on September 8.
All performances are set to begin at 8:30 PM. Tickets are already available for purchase at Thimonia Bakery, Silver Kiosk Pera Chorio, and Shialos Kiosk in Lympia.
