Cyprus’ villages have long been home to vibrant music festivals, but the forests of Troodos have remained relatively untouched by such cultural events. The introduction of a music festival at the Forest Theatre in Kato Amiantos marks a significant addition to the island’s cultural landscape.
Unique Location in the Heart of Troodos
Nestled deep within the Troodos forest at an elevation of 1,150 meters, the Kato Amiantos Forest Theatre offers a truly unique setting. Throughout July and August, the theatre will host a series of enchanting music concerts amidst towering trees, promising evenings filled with classical melodies, jazz rhythms, and the rich traditional sounds of Cyprus and Greece. This refreshing escape into the cool mountain air provides a welcome reprieve from the summer heat.
A Cultural Journey Amidst Nature
The festival commenced on July 12th, featuring a diverse lineup of performances. Now in its third edition, the festival aims to elevate professional artists and enrich cultural activities in rural Cyprus.
Upcoming Highlights
On July 24th, music enthusiasts can enjoy a mesmerizing concert of traditional Cypriot and Greek music performed by four musicians, accompanied by a live ceramist creating art on stage. The festival’s concerts, all starting at 8pm, promise memorable experiences under the forest canopy.
Diverse Program Ahead
Following this, a jazz trio comprising George Koulas on drums, Irenaios Koulouras on acoustic bass, and Christos Yerolatsitis on piano will take the stage on August 4th. On August 10th, pianist Manolis Neophytou and vocalist Andria Demosthenous will enchant audiences with songs and arias from Greece and Italy. The following night, August 11th, will feature a piano recital by Alice Power and Nicoletta Savvidou, showcasing compositions by Chopin, Liszt, Granados, and Glass.
Continuing the Celebration
The festival continues into August with three more captivating concerts. On August 17th, Vakia Stavrou and Manolis Neophytou will present an evening of “Songs of the World”. Neophytou returns on August 21st for a solo piano recital, followed by a performance by a piano trio on August 30th to conclude the festival’s 2024 edition.
