Art exhibitions are thriving once again. As the autumn season kicks off, signaling the start of the academic year, the art world similarly experiences a revival, unveiling fresh projects and creative displays. This week, a new exhibition in Nicosia is set to open, featuring a series of works by renowned Cypriot artist Nikos Kourousis at the Alpha CK Art Gallery. The exhibit’s grand opening on Friday will introduce 14 new pieces, including both wall-mounted and floor-standing sculptures.
A Renowned Artistic Legacy
With a distinguished career that spans several decades, Kourousis has earned numerous accolades and established himself as a leading figure in Cyprus’ art scene. He is recognized not only for his contributions to the local artistic landscape but also as a foundational figure in the development of contemporary art in Cyprus.
Kourousis’ creative approach is rooted in his belief that “the medium is not the foundation of artistic creation; it engages in a dialogue with the concept, and together, they create the artwork.” His art often explores themes drawn from mythology, encouraging viewers to reflect on the social and human dimensions of life, while simultaneously experimenting with innovative forms of artistic expression.
Global Artistic Presence
Kourousis’ work has been featured in a wide array of solo and group exhibitions worldwide. His exhibitions include prestigious platforms such as the Young Artists Biennale in Paris, the India Triennale in New Delhi, and shows at the Commonwealth Institute in London, and the Ateneo de Madrid in Spain, among many others. In recognition of his contributions to art, he was awarded the Medal of Excellence in 2021 by the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts. His creations are held in both public and private collections across Cyprus and internationally, from Greece to Armenia and China.
Return to Nicosia
For this latest solo exhibition, Kourousis returns to his hometown of Nicosia to present his new collection, which will remain on display until November 2. The exhibition, titled Yli-Choros-Chronos, will give visitors the opportunity to experience his latest artistic vision.
