A new festival is launching this week, designed to rejuvenate Arakapas village and foster a deeper bond between people and the environment. The inaugural Back to the Roots Festival is set for this Saturday, featuring a full day of tree planting, environmental art, sustainable workshops, and nature-inspired cinema. This event seeks to restore the region’s natural landscape following the devastation caused by the 2021 fires.
A Full Day Dedicated to Nature and Community
Starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until 11 p.m., the festival will offer a packed agenda for locals, visitors, nature enthusiasts, and eco-advocates of all ages. With activities for children, adults, environmentalists, and the general public, the festival’s goal is to foster a shared responsibility for environmental restoration and awareness. This community-centered event is a unique chance for participants to spend a fun day outdoors, while learning about the critical role of nature in our lives.
Activities Highlighted: Tree Planting, Eco-Workshops, and More
For one day, Arakapas will transform into a lively eco-hub where participants can engage in several key activities, including:
- Tree-Planting: Help restore fire-damaged areas and rebuild the region’s ecosystem.
- Workshops: Join hands-on sessions on sustainable practices, reforestation methods, and conservation techniques led by environmental experts.
- Biodiversity Lectures: Attend interactive talks on the importance of biodiversity and ways to protect it.
The festival also features an Open-Air Cinema, showcasing films that focus on pressing environmental issues. Art installations will be displayed around the village, celebrating the connection between people and nature and underscoring the significance of preserving natural spaces.
A Corporate Reforestation Initiative with Innovative Technology
In addition to these activities, a unique corporate reforestation project will be conducted on an experimental plot provided by Arakapas municipality and supported by the forestry department. Experts from the Andrey and Julia Dashin Foundation, along with biologists, ecologists, and reforestation specialists, will guide participants in planting saplings to boost the area’s biodiversity. This project will incorporate the Groasis Waterboxx technology from the Netherlands, specifically designed to increase the survival rate of young trees in arid climates.
Food, Fun, and Community Spirit
No festival would be complete without refreshments, games, and community fun. Throughout the day, visitors of all ages can enjoy various activities, with everything geared toward reconnecting with and safeguarding the environment.
More Than an Event – A Movement for Environmental Renewal
As organizers put it, “The Back to the Roots Festival is more than just an event. It’s a movement to heal the land, restore biodiversity, and reinforce our connection to nature. By participating, you’re contributing to transforming Arakapas, supporting the environment, and joining a lasting effort to renew Cyprus’ natural heritage.”
