As July’s luminous full moon graces the night sky, a local NGO is set to host an enchanting poetry evening in Nicosia, featuring eight talented poets. On July 24, the rooftop of ARTos House in Ayioi Omologites will come alive with the verses of two international poets and six local poets. This free event promises to be a bilingual literary experience, with poetry presented in both Greek and English.
A Night of Verses and Moonlight
This marks the third Versopolis – Panselinos in Cyprus, organized by NGO Ideogramma, in collaboration with the European Versopolis Platform. Since 2019, Ideogramma has been promoting emerging Cypriot poets on this platform. This summer, they continue their tradition of celebrating poetry, amplifying the voices of budding poets.
Poets from Near and Far
The evening will feature performances by Vanhauwaert from Belgium, Patryk Kosenda from Poland, and Alexandros Chronides, Andreas Timotheou, Avgi Lilli, Constantinos Papageorgiou, Pavlos Andreou, and Tuğçe Tekhanli from Cyprus. Each poet will read their works in their original language, with translations in English and/or Greek either read aloud or projected, ensuring that the audience can fully appreciate the poetry regardless of their language background.
Engaging Conversations
After the readings, a discussion will take place in English, where the visiting poets will be interviewed by their Cypriot counterparts about their poems and creative processes. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to receive signed copies of poetry collections from the visiting poets, distributed during the event.
