This week, film enthusiasts in Larnaca are in for a treat as the Larnaka Cinema Society hosts its second seaside film screening. Finikoudes Beach, located in front of the Medieval Castle, will be transformed into a picturesque outdoor cinema, offering a unique viewing experience by the sea. The highlight of the evening is a film that delves into the life of one of the most iconic figures in Swing music.
A Tribute to Django Reinhardt
The featured film, Django, explores the true story of Django Reinhardt, a pioneering jazz guitarist and composer. Set against the backdrop of World War II, the movie portrays his rise to fame and the challenges he faced as he navigated the perils of the era. Released in 2017, Django was the opening film of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. The screening will be in French with Greek subtitles, allowing audiences to experience the film in its original language.
A Free Summer Cinema Experience
The event is free to the public, but attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good spot on the beach. The screening starts at 8:30 PM, and since no seating will be provided, moviegoers should bring their own beach chairs or towels to relax on the sand while enjoying the film under the summer stars.
Upcoming Film Screening
Later this summer, the Larnaka Cinema Society will host one final seaside film night on August 30. The event will feature the Greek comedy Ekei Pou Zoume (Where We Live), directed by Sotiris Gkoritsas. This 2022 film is sure to bring laughter to the Larnaca coastline, rounding off the summer’s cinematic offerings.
