Pop-up Screenings of Swiss Films
Film enthusiasts in Nicosia and Paphos are in for a treat, as special pop-up film screenings are set to take place soon. Organized by the Embassy of Switzerland as part of the Weeks of the German Language, these events will showcase an engaging black comedy. The screenings will occur on November 18 at Pantheon Theatre in Nicosia and November 24 at Attikon Multicultural Space in Paphos.
A Gripping Black Comedy: Der Bestatter – Der Film
Directed by Markus Fischer, Der Bestatter – Der Film (The Undertaker) is a fresh continuation of the popular TV series of the same name. Fischer brings his signature storytelling flair to the big screen, offering audiences a thrilling and darkly humorous experience.
A Suspenseful Plot
The film follows an undertaker who embarks on a new journey running a restaurant in Costa Rica. However, a reunion at a hotel for Erika Bürgisser’s 70th birthday takes a dark turn. As mysterious deaths disrupt the celebration, the group is forced to return to their old ways of investigating—this time, unofficially.
Drawing inspiration from classic “hotel films” like Murder on the Orient Express, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and The Apartment, Fischer masterfully weaves a tale of intrigue. The isolated hotel setting becomes a playground for suspense, unexpected twists, and hidden secrets.

The screenings of Der Bestatter – Der Film will be presented in Swiss-German with English subtitles, making it accessible to a wider audience.
