An upcoming art exhibition at Ekate (Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts) in Nicosia this month will showcase the works of Anthoula Simadiakou. Titled “The Wanderer” or ‘Periplanomeni’ in Greek, the exhibition will debut on May 17 with a reception at 7.30pm and run until May 25.
Drawing inspiration from various cultures and serendipitous human encounters during her travels, the artist employs a distinctive creative approach to capture the essence of the human soul in her artworks. Through a rich tapestry of images, emotions, and truths, the exhibition offers a journey into Simadiakou’s experiences, particularly in Nepal and across Africa.
Simadiakou’s paintings, characterized by intensity and dynamism, utilize a variety of materials and mixed techniques including acrylic, charcoal, inks, gouache, collages, and monotypes. Her focus lies in the vibrant use of colors to convey vitality and expressive energy, blending abstract and sometimes figurative elements.
Rather than depicting specific individuals or forms, the artist aims to invite viewers to appreciate the beauty of diversity and connect with the universal truths of the human soul. In her debut exhibition, Simadiakou presents emotionally charged interpretations of her subjects, highlighting the intricacies and beauty of the human spirit. Through her colorful and heartfelt artworks, the exhibition seeks to evoke profound emotions, awaken the senses, and reveal the essence of the artist’s soul.
