The latest installment of the On Bodies Festival, organized by Dance House Lefkosia, once again shines a spotlight on dance and performance art. Scheduled from May 16 to 19 in Nicosia, the festival will showcase a diverse range of contemporary performance practices that utilize choreography and the human body as vehicles for artistic expression. Over its 16-year history, the festival has provided a platform for numerous creators and groups to debut their work to a broad audience, facilitating their initial artistic endeavors.
This year, the festival’s theme revolves around Healing, exploring various facets such as the process of wound treatment, support for trauma recovery, and the journey toward achieving mental or physical well-being. According to the organizers, addressing trauma, particularly collective trauma and its lasting effects, is imperative, especially in regions like Cyprus that have endured conflict and aggression.
The festival features participation from young, emerging, and established artists from Cyprus and beyond, showcasing their creations on the main stage, in the garden and outdoor spaces of Dance House Lefkosia, as well as in collaborative venues.
Furthermore, as part of the festival and in collaboration with EDN – European Dance Development Network and Dance Gate Lefkosia – Cyprus, the Atelier Healing: Becoming Well Again will be presented, offering a series of talks, discussions, workshops, curated walks, and performative events throughout the festival’s duration.
