August is a magical month, filled with celestial wonders like the breathtaking Perseids Meteor Showers and a host of exciting events on the ground. One such special occasion is happening this Thursday at the Cyprus Planetarium, where visitors can enjoy projections, enlightening talks, and stargazing.
Exploring Cyprus’s Ancient Mysteries
The event begins with a fascinating journey through time, exploring the secrets behind the creation of the island of Cyprus. Blending history, science, and astronomy, this evening promises to captivate those eager to learn about the unseen aspects of our world.
At 7:30 PM, the program kicks off with a dome projection titled Dinosaurs: A Story of Survival, offering a visual spectacle that delves into the ancient past. Following this, at 8:00 PM, naturalist and president of the Association for the Protection of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity of Cyprus, George Constantinou, will give a lecture. His talk, titled “The Creation of the Island of Cyprus: Elephants, Hippos, and Neolithic People,” will unravel the fascinating history of the island, including the presence of prehistoric creatures and early human inhabitants. This part of the event will take place at the Sky Amphitheatre.
Stargazing and Celestial Wonders
The evening concludes with live stargazing at the amphitheatre from 9 PM onwards. Guests can gaze at the summer night sky and, with some luck, witness the mesmerizing Perseids Meteor Showers, a spectacular natural phenomenon that graces the skies during this time of year.
The Secrets of the Creation of the Island of Cyprus offers a blend of stargazing, dome projections, and a talk that promises to be both educational and awe-inspiring. The event is scheduled for August 8 at the Cyprus Planetarium in Episkopi. The program will be conducted in Greek, with tickets priced at €15 for adults and €5 for children under 12.
