The capital city of Nicosia is set to host a trio of captivating art exhibitions this month, featuring a diverse array of artistic expressions from local talents and organizations.
Cyprus Young Contemporaries: Reverie at Korai Project Space
From June 13 to 20, Korai Project Space will showcase “Cyprus Young Contemporaries: Reverie,” the graduation exhibition of students from the Fine Arts program at the University of Nicosia’s Department of Design and Multimedia. This exhibition invites visitors into a mesmerizing world where dreams and reality intertwine. Each artwork presented delves into the artists’ interpretations of consciousness, the subconscious, and supernatural realms, drawing inspiration from childhood, dreams, and imaginary landscapes. Inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s “The Poetics of Reverie: Childhood, Language, and the World,” the exhibition is organized into thematic sections corresponding to chapters of the book. Nikola Mitropoulou will contribute her insights on the closing night, June 20, adding poetic reflections on the participants’ works.
Reflections by Soteria Pavlou at Common Room
Running until June 16 at Common Room by Prozak, “Reflections” features the photographic works of Soteria Pavlou. These photographs, originally exhibited three decades ago, are reintroduced in a new context, inviting viewers to reflect on the passage of time and the evolving perspectives captured through Pavlou’s lens.
LIFE with Vultures at A. G. Leventis Gallery
Opening on June 20 at the A. G. Leventis Gallery, “LIFE with Vultures” marks the culmination of a five-year EU-funded project aimed at protecting the Griffon Vulture population in Cyprus. Collaboratively presented with BirdLife Cyprus, the exhibition includes a compelling photography showcase by Silvio A Rusmigo and a documentary screening highlighting the challenges and conservation efforts dedicated to this iconic species.
These exhibitions not only enrich Nicosia’s cultural landscape but also offer profound insights into contemporary art and environmental conservation efforts, inviting the community to engage deeply with the creativity and issues explored by these talented artists and organizations.
