As June draws to a close, the last weekend of the month brings a host of exciting events. With the summer season in full swing, the island is buzzing with festivals and outdoor activities. This weekend, local creatives have organized a variety of open-air screenings, beach parties, and new exhibitions for everyone to enjoy.
Art and Sports Meet in Nicosia
For art and sports enthusiasts, a new thematic exhibition is launching in Nicosia at the AG Leventis Gallery this Saturday. The exhibition, “The Road to Paris,” coincides with the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Running from Saturday until September 8, the exhibition is a collaboration between the Cyprus Olympic Committee, the Embassy of France, and The French Institute of Cyprus. It is divided into two parts. The first part, a traveling exhibition from the National Sports Museum of Nice, highlights the struggle for women’s recognition and equality in the Olympics. The second part chronicles the history of the Olympic Games, the establishment of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, and showcases Cypriot athletes participating in this summer’s games in Paris.
German Cinema Under the Stars
Starting Sunday, the Goethe-Institut Cyprus’ Sommerkino season returns with a week of German film screenings. Held in the institute’s garden, this year’s event focuses on films starring the acclaimed actress Sandra Hüller. From June 30 to July 4, film enthusiasts can enjoy a series of outdoor screenings, free of charge, with films in German accompanied by English and Greek subtitles.
Beach Party in Pervolia
On Saturday, the Kahuna Surfhouse in Pervolia will host a summery beach party organized by Nostalgia Party. As surfers ride the waves and partake in various watersports, others can relax on the beach while enjoying music from DJs Claudio and Dr. Cordoba, who will spin tunes from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. The party, featuring food from Misfit Union Kitchen, will continue until 11 PM, and entry is free.
Film Festival in Paphos
Paphos will also be vibrant this weekend with the 9th edition of the Paphos International Film Festival at Technopolis 20. From Friday to Sunday, under the starry night sky, a series of remarkable short films and documentaries from around the globe will be showcased. This festival supports independent films and encourages the audience to vote for their favorite, with the Audience Award being announced based on these votes. Entry to the festival is free.
