This week offers a rich array of live music performances, from lively August festivals to more intimate gigs. Across the island, bars and live music venues are set to host an impressive lineup of talented local musicians, as several prepare to take the stage as the weekend draws near.
Thursday’s Musical Journey
On Thursday, the Antiquities Department presents a unique concert at Larnaca’s Medieval Castle titled In the Glow of the Moon. The evening’s star, Vakia Stavrou, will enchant the audience with an international repertoire, taking listeners on a melodic journey through the world of music. Expect to hear songs in French, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, and other languages, with Manolis Neophytou accompanying on the piano. This free concert is likely to draw a crowd, so arrive early to secure a seat.
Saturday’s Musical Delights
On Saturday, Spilia village will resonate with the sounds of Anna Chrysanthou, who will perform a selection of well-known and beloved songs from the Greek entechno and rock scene. The concert will also feature Cypriot songs and original tracks from her debut album. She will be joined by Angelina Constantiou on the cello. This free event begins at 8:30 pm at the Irene Amphitheatre.
In Nicosia, also on Saturday, the Kontrafouris Baby Trio will perform live at Mikri Arktos. The trio, consisting of Greek organist George Kontrafouris and young Cypriot musicians Alexandros Adam on guitar and Nikolas Tsangaris on drums, pays tribute to the great organ trios of the 60s to the 90s with fresh arrangements of jazz standards.
Sunday’s Musical Finale
